Gavin’s research explores the republican notion of fraternité as it emerged within the context of the French Resistance in the years 1940-1944. Specifically, his study examines how this concept was understood within the Resistance concerning the important – and often overlooked – role of foreigners who volunteered to join the French in their struggle against Occupation.
